TASK: Design an effective poster and an iPhone application that educates the audience on a social issue, maintains readability, and is of high aesthetic quality.

SOLUTION: An educational platform for open conversation about the church’s response to the LGBTQ+ community.
More Than An App
Love Thy Neighbor is an open and honest opportunity to discuss how the Bible's words have been twisted to promote hate towards the LGBTQ+ community.

1946 was when the word "homosexual" was first placed in the Bible. It was a mistranslation that shaped a very different story. For more information on the mistranslation visit 1946themovie.com
Hand-made Elements
I chose to get off the computer as much as possible for this User Interface project.
When designing a poster that informs the user about the social issue and the platform, I took inspiration from Saul Bass’ iconic rough paper shapes to create a bold, striking image that mimics a typical sign that protesters of the LGBTQ+ community hold. The style of the hand-painted poster was carried over into the app’s interface.
Emulating Saul Bass' style in my own way was an exciting challenge with lots of trial and error. I wanted to build on his cut-paper style with my own twist.
After sketching out limbs in Bass' graphic style, I cut the limbs out of paper and used the paper to stamp the shapes that I had designed. The result was a powerful, textured, humanized image.
The Users and their Journey
When designing the app, I considered the tendencies and desires of my target users. I created personas of two distinct audiences, one being a member of the church and the other being his grandchild that just came out as part of the LGBTQ+ community. This segmentation led to an app with two educational pathways.
Final Screens
The app is edgy, yet meaningful with a concept and content that would shape perspectives.
App Marketing
Developing the language and feeling that would be used to advertise Love Thy Neighbor was vital to determining how it will be perceived by users.
The main goal is for it to be welcoming and nonpartisan.
